I’ve been one to bemoan those who rush into an election season too early, but I cannot help but applaud the politically shrewd move in Obama eliminating the only Republican that would have a shot at beating him. Moderate, youthful, Mandarin fluent Utah Governor John Huntsman will forego his foray onto the national political stage for at least another presidential election cycle. While this is at first glance a victory for Obama, this may actually help moderate Republicans in the long run. …a person somewhere around the world dies of hunger. That adds up to more than 25,000 people every year, that like killing the entire crowd at the Wizards stadium for 2 weeks. However, hunger is not the real core problem here, it is simply the symptom. We’ve got to hit the root cause, which happens to be poverty.

SWF’s – The New Hedge Fund

As the world continues to creep closer and closer to ultimate globalization, international finance continues to become a chief concern among those interested in preserving the economic independence present in the current world.

Currently, hedge funds are regarded by many Americans as the largest investment vehicle that has the power to overwhelm markets with large trades. Nevertheless, these hedge funds will soon look like childís play when the world catches a grasp of the new financial holding vehicle, the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF). SWFís are like hedge funds on steroids, rolling in at nearly twice the size in equity value.

These funds havenít made much news in the US other than a couple of articles in the financial news and few hearings …

This is former Defense Secretary Dick Cheney who served under President George H.W. Bush during the Gulf War. In this video from 1994, Mr. Cheney provides his analysis of what would happen (hypothetically) if the US actually overthrew Saddam Hussein.

NY Times: Amputee May Be Banned from Running in the Olympics

cheetah.jpgThe Issue: The New York Times had an interesting article about an amputee from South Africa whose attempting to qualify for the Olympics. Oscar Pistorius is a double amputee who had his lower leg removed as an infant. He has been training on what are known as Cheetahs, essentially carbon based blades shaped in a J that can function as well as normal legs in terms of the sprint. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), which is the governing organization over competitive track and field recently ruled that Mr. Pistorius would have an “unfair advantage” as they claim his Cheetahs were more energy efficient than actual human legs. …
