The Caucus: Day Three

john-cox-president.jpgDay three was a very interesting day. We didn’t actually attend any political events until later that night. It was, however, a fantastic experience – we were a part of an NPR discussion in the first event and then went to the final large scale Senator Clinton rally where she pulled out all the stops and brought out all of her top gun supporters – including her husband (and one of my true heroes) Bill Clinton.

The Caucus: Day Deux

chuck_norris.jpgToday was a big day, and we had big ambitions for the day at its advent. We planned to go to three different Caucus related events – one for Senator Hillary Clinton at the Gateway Hotel, one for former Senator John Edwards at Iowa State’s Memorial Union and one for former Governor Mike Huckabee at the Val Air Ballroom in Des Moines. Each spot gave us unique opportunities to interact with candidates as they scratch out every single possible vote from caucus goers. In each case, we were successful in our venture.

The Caucus: Day One

The Drive

The ride out to Iowa took a lot longer than I had originally anticipated. Chris, Tyler and I were on the road for over 8 hours, driving around the Chicagoland area then through the flat (and by ‘flat’ I mean nothing as far as the eye could see at times) counties of Western Illinois. By the time we reached the Mississippi River Bridge that took us into Iowa the snow had begun to fall hard. Dump trucks sat poised in the median ready to salt and plow the snow. Even with these trucks, there were a myriad of overturned vehicles in the median, including one semi truck.
