That’s one nasty, bad idea there…

So one of the worst kept secrets in Fort Wayne, OK maybe not that bad, but we saw the Wizards Name Change Contest coming months ago after the news was squeaked out by a Journal Gazette reporter during a routine interview with those “Hardball Guys.”

It’s only naturally that a new ownership group considers a re-branding, but don’t you typically not re-brand successful firms? It seems to me that the Wizards continue to set new attendance records and while I still hold the opinion that the team needs to move up to Double-A and get out of the affiliation with the San Diego Padres, I think the team name is just fine.

An Open Letter to Tom Henry

Dear Mayor Henry:

In 2009, Fort Wayne will recieve a windfall of $40 million from the City Light Lease fund. As promised in your campaign, the public will be consulted. I ask that you don’t spend a dime of that money.

Let’s say we spend that money on another huge project all at once, if that project flops we’re out the money and the reserve that could have been hundreds of millions in the future.

If invested at a conservative rate of 8% (not even close to the markets average of 12%), that money will generate a return of over $3,000,000 - so lets be conservative and use half of that to provide city services. We’ll add money to the pot and Fort …

Who does the windfall tax on profits hurt?

Presumptive nominee Barack Obama promises a windfall profits tax on American Oil companies. He claims this will force them to bring jobs back overseas and that the proposed tax will help the middle class, but Obama seems to be missing a major point in the situation.

Like many companies in America, a majority of these companies are traded on a stock exchange, whether that be AMEX, NYSE, or NASDAQ. Therefore, when these publicly traded corporations make a profit, those profits head to the shareholders in the form of dividends.
