American Electric Power Advertising
Over the past few months I’ve noticed a few corner ads in the front section of the Journal Gazette. Usually in 3A or 4A.
My question is this: Why is American Electric Power running advertising?
You can’t just call up another power company and switch. Maybe they think it generates community goodwill, but I think dumping the marketing budget and cutting rates would generate an awful lot more community goodwill.

I realized something similar with Boeing commerials on TV. I suppose one could do a bit of research and figure out which airline uses Boeing, but other than that I don’t see much point in it.

Neil, I suspect that there’s a rate increase request planned for the near future. There’s really no other reason for a company with a monopoly to expend funds for the purpose of generating goodwill among the public, unless it’s designed to soften opposition to future unpopular actions. I know, I’m a cynic…the logic is still sound though!
