Today at 10 AM Chris Wright, Tyler Platt (two of my high school friends) and I will begin an 8 hour drive out to Des Moines to immerse ourselves in the last few days of the Iowa Caucus.
The stakes are high: Iowa will provide two candidates, one from each of the major political parties with momentum going into the nation’s first primaries and will most likely prove to spell the death knell for others. The battle is even more intense this year as Iowa on both sides is anybody’s game - there is a three way race on the Democratic side and a two way race for the Republican side. This will be interesting.
I will attempt to take in as much of the Caucus experience as a few days in Iowa will afford me. I intend to interact with campaign staffers, caucus goers and (hopefully) a presidential candidate or two.
This evening I will be going to a rally at Iowa State University where Barack Obama will be making an appearance. I have a friend who is a paid campaign staffer for Senator Chris Dodd, and will hopefully be able to interview him about what it is like to work on a presidential campaign in the political cooker that is Iowa. Another friend will actually be caucusing, and hopefully he will provide commentary as to how that process works and what it is like to be a part of one of the most important political events in any presidential campaign season.
Over the next few days expect regular updates and pictures.
