Picken’ out parts from Pickens’ Plan

He’s arguably one of the biggest names in renewable energy lately, as over the past few weeks he’s attempting to make himself a household name with a $58 million advertising blitz. The man’s name is T. Boone Pickens, and the self-proclaimed oil man brings an interesting proposal to the table just months before the ever-important presidential election.

While you have to give the man credit for bringing a well-conceived proposal to the table of this perpetual brainstorming session, he only scores just over half. In short, his idea of revitalizing the middle portion of the country by bringing “green jobs” (Sorry, but I couldn’t resist throwing in a few words Hillary Clinton buzzword vocabulary) to rural towns and utilizing the wind power. However, Pickens proposes using the “saved” natural gas (because we’d be using wind to power our desktop computers and HDTV’s) to run our automobiles. Sounds good right?

The problem lies in the fact that the infrastructure for running cars on natural gas isn’t exactly here. Furthermore, it’s not the ultimate solution – we’ve got to quit patching holes and find the real answer to the problem. America has a gushing bloody nose and Pickens’ is proposing tossing a ragedy tissue to stop the flow. This just isn’t a long term solution and that’s why I struggle with tossing $1 trillion that could be invested in other resource, the opportunity cost is huge.

But don’t just take my analysis on the plan – watch Pickens pitch his own plan:
