What’s in a Name?

Although referencing Romeo and Juliet is incredibly trite, it nonetheless underscores an important point - it shouldn’t matter in picking the leader of our country. In politics it helps if your name is Bush, Roosevelt, Kennedy or Rockefeller or is alliterative (Ronald Reagan, Hannibal Hamlin etc). But unless your shtick is railing against elite political families or hating repetitive letters and sounds, names usually do not have a negative affect on a politician.

Enter the 2008 presidential race. Although the McCain camp has done a good job denouncing the practice, some of his supporters have selectively chosen to insert Senator Obama’s middle …

Huck soars, John falls

As I watched the final Republican debate before Super Tuesday I noticed two things.

Mike Huckabee talked sense. He talked to the people. Although, Anderson Cooper didn’t give him much time, he made the most of what he received.
John McCain was boring. He was dull. I started falling asleep.

The Caucus: Day Deux

chuck_norris.jpgToday was a big day, and we had big ambitions for the day at its advent. We planned to go to three different Caucus related events – one for Senator Hillary Clinton at the Gateway Hotel, one for former Senator John Edwards at Iowa State’s Memorial Union and one for former Governor Mike Huckabee at the Val Air Ballroom in Des Moines. Each spot gave us unique opportunities to interact with candidates as they scratch out every single possible vote from caucus goers. In each case, we were successful in our venture.
