The Convention: I’m here!

After ten hours in the car, one stop for gas and food and three states I finally made it to Minneapolis.

In between the intermittent NPR stations I was able to tune into and the seemingly endless stuff on my Ipod, I had a lot of time to think. One thing continually passed through my mind - Sarah Palin?!?!

I really don’t understand the choice at all. I mean, he could be going for the disaffected Hillary vote but he’s sacrificing the “experience” vote at the same time. I could go on, but I’ve gotta get up early for work tomorrow.

Picken’ out parts from Pickens’ Plan

He’s arguably one of the biggest names in renewable energy lately, as over the past few weeks he’s attempting to make himself a household name with a $58 million advertising blitz. The man’s name is T. Boone Pickens, and the self-proclaimed oil man brings an interesting proposal to the table just months before the ever-important presidential election.

While you have to give the man credit for bringing a well-conceived proposal to the table of this perpetual brainstorming session, he only scores just over half. In short, his idea of revitalizing the middle portion of the country by bringing “green jobs” (Sorry, but I couldn’t resist throwing in a few words Hillary Clinton buzzword vocabulary) to rural towns and utilizing the wind …

Who does the windfall tax on profits hurt?

Presumptive nominee Barack Obama promises a windfall profits tax on American Oil companies. He claims this will force them to bring jobs back overseas and that the proposed tax will help the middle class, but Obama seems to be missing a major point in the situation.

Like many companies in America, a majority of these companies are traded on a stock exchange, whether that be AMEX, NYSE, or NASDAQ. Therefore, when these publicly traded corporations make a profit, those profits head to the shareholders in the form of dividends.
