Barack Obama: Will you check your math?

A couple of months ago I was watching a debate between Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John Edwards. Barack made a statement to the effect that he voted†against†a bill providing limits on credit card interest rates because he thought the rate of 30% was too high. Edwards called him on the statement, but the debate pressed on.

Barack’s statement stuck with me, why did he vote against that bill. Why? He said that he thought the rate was too high, so I decided that he voted against the bill to keep the debate continuing – it didn’t make a whole lot of sense, but I decided that I’d go with it.

Then I read his website:
Obama supports extending a 36 percent interest …

Indiana’s Superdelegates

clinton_2.jpgAs delegate counting has become the new rage in national Democratic conversation, the idea of looking at how ësuperdelegatesí vote is not something relegated to the political junkies. It is darn near impossible for either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama to secure the nomination without them so they now become incredibly important in deciding which Dem will square off against McCain this fall.

For those of you who donít know, ësuperdelegateí is an informal term for a delegate to the Democratic National Convention not directly chosen through a primary or caucus. They are party officials as well as current and former elected officeholders.

Just whom are these ësuperdelegatesí from …

Spitzer, Wall Street and Timing the Resignation

paterson.jpgAccording to literally every national news organization in America, the Governor of New York Eliot Spitzer has been implicated in a prostitution ring. There has been speculation all day that he would resign at any minute. The NY Times reported that the state was at a standstill, not really knowing if the governor would resign. Lt. Governor David Paterson (whom I saw campaigning for Hillary Clinton at an Iowa rally back in January. He’s pictured here between Cheers actor Ted Danson and Clinton National Chair Terry McAuliffe ) even told reporters he didnít know what the Governorís plans were, saying that he hadnít heard from the governor since Monday.

Women vote on issues, not sex

Senator Hillary ClintonFollowing the media’s take on women in the upcoming election they seem to be writing them off as Hillary Clinton supporters. I personally have not witnessed droves of women who will vote for Hillary Clinton just because she is a woman. Do these “political strategists” seriously believe that women will only vote for a woman candidate.

Just because Hillary has a chance at being the first female president doesn’t particularly mean that those who share her female status will run to the polls all prissy and pretty in their purple dresses and vote for her.

Not trying to be all preachy here, but women think too. They make …

Chris Wright: Thoughts and Reactions

My good friend and fellow political junkie Chris Wright has been instrumental in getting our coverage of politics for the Caucus. Here are a few thoughts on our whirlwind experience.
chris_wright.jpgFor me, this was an eventful and life changing experience. Going into this week, I had only met a few of the candidates. Earlier in the summer, I traveled out to Iowa to attend the Iowa state fair. I ended up, after the long weekend was done, meeting Barack Obama, John Edwards, and Bill Richardson. I thought that week was good, but nothing could have prepared me for the 5 days I have spent here in Iowa. …
