As delegate counting has become the new rage in national Democratic conversation, the idea of looking at how ‘superdelegates’ vote is not something relegated to the political junkies. It is darn near impossible for either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama to secure the nomination without them so they now become incredibly important in deciding which Dem will square off against McCain this fall.

For those of you who don’t know, ‘superdelegate’ is an informal term for a delegate to the Democratic National Convention not directly chosen through a primary or caucus. They are party officials as well as current and former elected officeholders.

According to literally every national news organization in America, the Governor of New York Eliot Spitzer has been implicated in a prostitution ring. There has been speculation all day that he would resign at any minute. The NY Times reported that the state was at a standstill, not really knowing if the governor would resign. Lt. Governor David Paterson (whom I saw campaigning for Hillary Clinton at an Iowa rally back in January. Following the media’s take on women in the upcoming election they seem to be writing them off as Hillary Clinton supporters. I personally have not witnessed droves of women who will vote for Hillary Clinton just because she is a woman. Do these “political strategists” seriously believe that women will only vote for a woman candidate.

Just because Hillary has a chance at being the first female president doesn’t particularly mean that those who share her female status will run to the polls all prissy and pretty in their purple dresses and vote for her.

My good friend and fellow political junkie Chris Wright has been instrumental in getting our coverage of politics for the Caucus. Here are a few thoughts on our whirlwind experience.
For me, this was an eventful and life changing experience. Going into this week, I had only met a few of the candidates. Earlier in the summer, I traveled out to Iowa to attend the Iowa state fair. Day three was a very interesting day. We didn’t actually attend any political events until later that night. It was, however, a fantastic experience – we were a part of an NPR discussion in the first event and then went to the final large scale Senator Clinton rally where she pulled out all the stops and brought out all of her top gun supporters – including her husband (and one of my true heroes) Bill Clinton.
