Is a Hoosier Senator the next VP choice?

With Obama dragging out his selection process for at least few more weeks, we’ve still got plenty of time to speculate about the myriad of potential candidates, but recently Indiana Senator Evan Bayh has been thrust into the spotlight as a likely choice for the VP nominations. Add to the fact that John Edwards is essentially out of the picture with his recent spectacle, Bayh has all the more chance of landing the job.

Bayh made a joint appearance with Obama last week in Indiana and appeared opposite Joe Lieberman on Fox News Sunday arguing vehemently in favor of Obama’s policies and giving that ever-so-famous non-answer to the …

NY Times rejects McCain attack on Obama

John McCain wrote an op-ed piece that apparently defended his stance on the Iraq War and attempted to lay out his plan for Iraq. The editorial was rejected by the New York Times. At first, I was ticked that the NY Times would play bias and print only an editorial by one side, but then I discovered the real problem. After reading the editorial released by the McCain campaign, it is apparent why it was rejected in that it contains little regarding McCain’s plan.
I have said that I expect to welcome home most of our troops from Iraq by the end of my first term in office, in 2013.

Tyler Platt: Thoughts and Reactions

My good friend and fellow political junkie Tyler Platt has been instrumental in getting our coverage of politics for The Caucus. Thanks to him, Chris and I have a place to stay and someone who knows Iowa to show us where to go. Here are a few thoughts on our whirlwind experience.
tyler-and-hillary.jpgAnd it is over. Being originally from Iowa, and now a student at Iowa State University, I have really left this experience with a tremendous sense of pride in what is quite possibly the most authentic and most fascinating democratic forum in the world. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to share …

The Caucus: Day Four

Our Final Run-Ins
We did not expect this day to be as fruitful in terms of engaging with political candidates and surrogates – we figured the candidates would be on such a frantic schedule that exactly nailing down where they would be seemed very difficult.
We were wrong.
danson-and-steenburgen.jpgWe ate at a restaurant called Olde Main Brewing Company in downtown Ames, not really expecting anyone to show up. In walked Ted Danson and his wife Mary Steenburgen. Normally I’d be floored by seeing people like Danson and Steenburgen, but we had run-ins with so many different people of fame that I just assumed we should leave them to their …

The Caucus: Day Deux

chuck_norris.jpgToday was a big day, and we had big ambitions for the day at its advent. We planned to go to three different Caucus related events – one for Senator Hillary Clinton at the Gateway Hotel, one for former Senator John Edwards at Iowa State’s Memorial Union and one for former Governor Mike Huckabee at the Val Air Ballroom in Des Moines. Each spot gave us unique opportunities to interact with candidates as they scratch out every single possible vote from caucus goers. In each case, we were successful in our venture.
