Political Equinox

I was a Mike Huckabee guy. Then Mike Huckabee dropped out and off came my bumper sticker. John McCain, while I agree with him on more positions than Barack Obama, has done little to convince me that he has the power to bring this country back to where it should be. Hopefully, he can do so.

That’s why Barack intrigues me. I’m on his mailing list and when that email came through at 3:11pm this afternoon for tickets into tomorrow’s event I was on it like a hawk. By 3:13pm, I had a pair of tickets.

They didn’t give him a chance. They said he should quit. They said he couldn’t win. They said it was going to be all John McCain. They were wrong.

The math looks shaky. The chances look slim. The percentages look small. He’ll need a miracle. Tonight, yes folks, tonight. February 9, 2008 could have been the start.

Now, I might be wrong. I probably am. February 9, 2008 could very well be a day we’ll never remember. But if Mike Huckabee’s miracle pulls through this will be the start of things.

With Kansas and Louisiana in the bag, Mike Huckabee has won two states of the three today. Washington is simply just too close to call.

If you didn’t notice, yesterday was Super Tuesday. The big news yesterday was the “Huckacomeback.”

Mike Huckabee was considered to be the John Edwards of the Republican Party. You know, the I’m in the race, but not really type of candidate. The only problem with that notation is that Huckabee nearly won several states. His big loss was Missouri, that hurt. Big time. Those 58 delegates actually put him 116 behind where he would have been. (I guess if you want to be all mathematical you could say 58, but since Huckabee could have …

As I watched the final Republican debate before Super Tuesday I noticed two things.

Mike Huckabee talked sense. He talked to the people. Although, Anderson Cooper didn’t give him much time, he made the most of what he received.
John McCain was boring. He was dull. I started falling asleep.

Tonight, John McCain made it clear that if he receives the Republican nomination, either Barack Obama or Hilary Clinton will slap him silly. That would be easy to do, all you have to do is talk faster than paint can dry, something McCain isn’t able to do.

Our Final Run-Ins
We did not expect this day to be as fruitful in terms of engaging with political candidates and surrogates – we figured the candidates would be on such a frantic schedule that exactly nailing down where they would be seemed very difficult.
