The Obama Playbook

This is a response to “The Obama Agenda” by Paul Krugman.

Mr. Krugman:

I must respectfully disagree with you. I am not calling on Obama to be “a do-nothing president.” I am calling on him to maintain a left-center tone throughout his presidency. The voters have given him a mandate not on healthcare, not on the economy, not on the war, but on his ability to unify, to lead, to solve the problems our nation faces. As much as conservatives like to claim, Obama did not run on a socialist ideology. I’m sick of hearing that, Barack Obama is not a socialist. He ran left (not socialist left) at the start, then centered a lot. If you aren’t convinced use archive.org …

The Twelfth Amendment

Since it’s inception in 1804, the Twelfth Amendment has governed every presidential election since, but the clause regarding ties in the electoral college has been used just once. In 1824, Andrew Jackson, John Quincy Adams, William H. Crawford, and Henry Clay all ran for the highest office in the land. Not a single candidate received a majority of the electoral votes.

The process was riddled with corruption and resulted in John Quincy Adams claiming the highest office in the land, leaving the leading candidate Andrew Jackson shortchanged. Jackson had expected the House to vote for him given that he had won a plurality of the electoral vote, but after some bargaining between Henry Clay and John Quincy Adams, Adams was elected.

America hasn’t seen a marketing machine similar to the Obama campaign for President in years (if ever), and I would be awful surprised if this well-oiled machine didn’t pull out a victory in November.

While Barack Obama is an exciting person, it is his campaigns unmatched ability to implement an excellent marketing strategy that revolves around creating energy and brand recognition.

Branding

Obama has rolled out the most comprehensive branding strategy of any presidential candidate ever, find me someone who has done a better job and I’ll show you how Obama tops it. No candidate has ever put out a stronger message to America through slogans, logos, websites, and literature.

The branding …

McCain’s Campaign Financing Decision

Because of the fiscal juggernaut that is the Obama campaign, The NY Times recently reported that John McCain’s campaign is mapping out a campaign strategy that is closely tied with the Republican National Committee. This after his campaign finance co-chair resigned because of a conflict of interest based on new campaign rules regarding connections to lobbyists.
From the Times:

“Mr. McCain, who abandoned public financing in the primary but has indicated he would employ it in the general election, is aggressively building a joint fund-raising operation with the Republican National Committee and state party committees in four battleground states. These committees can raise money far in excess of …

Super (Duper) Tuesday - The Donkey Side

For the Democrats, Super Tuesday was a bag of mixed nuts.

One would have assumed that with the exit of John Edwards his supporters would shift one way or another. One would have assumed that since what seemed like every state was up for grabs, one of the two remaining candidates would take charge and become the presumptive nominee. One would even assume that if one candidate won major states over the other candidate that candidate would be finished.

Welp, if one assumed all or even any of that, one would assume wrong.

The fact was that Hillary won the biggies – New York, California and even some of the upsetties (doesn’t work as well) - namely Massachusetts and New Jersey. …
